I see the hand of her mother in the Townsend affair, as the Duchess of York the wife of the then Duke of York had colluded with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Cosmo Lang to remove the Prince of Wales and install the Yorks as King and Queen, it would have been in the now Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother to ensure that her daughter, Princess Margaret didn't marry a divorced man. Her daughter's happiness was ignored in the face of the Queen Mother's pursuit of total power.
